This is a great western / mining story that closly follows the growth of the town. Many of the characters are actual town founders. The accurate historical background gives you the feeling that the tale could be non-fiction. A thriller that I couldn't put down.

While time has passed since this book came out, some of the information is valuable to the new investor and the experienced one. The info on gold, real estate are indipensible. Buy It!

I recommend this book to anyone who believes in clear, rational thought. If you are good at thinking, it will help you get better. And if you aren't very good at argumentation, then definately buy it!

I used this text in a philosophy class on logic and found it a refreshingly GOOD text. Too often professors assign texts that are either irrelevant to what we are studying or texts that are so poorly written as to be rendered useless.

I always thought I was good at logic, but this text (and the class to be honest) gave me some tools to hone that skill.

This text does a wonderful job of explaining the rules and terminology behind logical argumentation, giving examples to back those explanations up, and then giving you exercises to practice your fledgling argumentation skills.

Do you know what it means to beg the question? Are you guilty of amphiboly? Do you realize it when politicians try to pull a fast one on you with semantic ambiguity?

Don't know what I'm talking about? Well, pick up this book and you will!

This book provided an excellent analysis of the Frankfurt School including the contributions of Horkheimer and Habermas. There were also three very interesting chapters that focused on the mass media and technology. For someone looking to develop a critical perspective of the media this book is a great start. Also, it was fairly easy to read.

There are a number of baseball trivia and quiz books on the market at any given time. Lyons has produced a couple of fun ones: Out Of Left Field and this one (its sequel). The trivia presented here is highly entertaining and interesting to read. What makes their approach a bit different is that they answer questions the average fan wouldn't think of asking but are interesting anyway. For example: Who was the only player to play for the original Washington Senators, the Minnesota Twins, the new Washington Senators, and the Texas Rangers? or Who was the last pitcher to pitch to Mickey Mantle to retire? A lot of thought went into this book and it is fun reading.

This sequel to the first book on cyberwar is even better (and the first one was very good) because it is much more deliberate about addressing strategy and diplomacy (part one); society, law, and commerce (part two); operations and information warfare (part three, where most military professionals get stuck); and intelligence, assessment, and modeling (part four). My chapter on "Information Peacekeeping, the Purest Form of War" appears here, but based on the lack of feedback I suspect all of the contributions in this section are a decade away from being understood with the U.S. Government.

This book is excellently illustrated and although many people prefer photos, it is very clear and usefull when identifying species. The author is giving a whealth of information on the different cycad species found in Africa. If you collect Encephalartos plants this book must be in your library! Read also Cycads of Central Africa by Peter Heibloem and Cycads of South Africa by Cynthia Giddy.

This book is filled with letters on topics such as holidays, growing old together, arguments, love, romance and loyalty. At the end of each letter is a prayer as well as a bible quote reflecting on the topic. It's amazing how the book is universally generic and yet it reads as if your own spouse is writing to you. It understands the nuances of marriage and helps strengthen and deepen the bonds we share. I highly recommend it. I received mine for Christmas and I cherish it already...Valentine's day is on its way!

There are so many good things about this book I hardly know where to begin. I suppose clarity and credibility are its two major virtues. Instead of describing people, saying what people are 'like', it contents itself with showing what happens when the stage is set for cultural conflict. What people are 'like' then emerges almost as a by-product, and this is the way it should emerge. The fact that these are authentic incidents is what makes them credible to business people, who also want to know what to do when faced with situations like the ones described. This is perhaps the greatest advantage of the book: it shows not so much what 'to do'. But it shows what was done, and what can be done, and then leaves it to the reader. In doing so, it provides him with a rich and flexible tool for dealing with cultural conflict and embellishes this with an entire array of facilitating techniques for implementation. This framework is transferable to other kinds of cultural conflicts as well as to kinds of conflict other than cultural. For me, this book represents nothing less than the wave of the future in understanding and dealing with culture conflict. Just by the way, it helps an awful lot if a book reads well. This one reads like a thriller, and a good one at that.

Darkhaven is good science-fantasy reading with a plot that moves like a mystery novel, complete with effective twists and surprises. It is highly entertaining reading. A very promising first novel by new-author Watson.
